For humans,
food is mostly made up of plants or animals and their products, selected over thousands of years, depending on their availability and their ability to provide organic sustenance. Each population also gives meaning and value to foods symbolic and cultural. Almost all foods originating from animals or plants, with some exceptions: the mushrooms are edible. Some types of fungi and bacteria are used in the preparation of foods fermented and pickled as bread, wine, beer, cheese, the pickles and yogurt. The algae in many cultures, especially Eastern, are an important food. In addition, salt is often eaten as a condiment and sodium bicarbonate is used in food preparation. Both are inorganic substances, which together with water, form an important part of human diet. While a certain food can be eaten directly, many others suffer specific preparations, both for reasons of safety and to make their pleasant taste. For example, washing, cutting, trimming or adding other foods or ingredients, such as spices. It may also involve mixing, heating or cooling, subjected to fermentation, or combined with another food. Some preparation is designed to enhance the taste or aesthetic; another can help preserve the food. Consumption of food is necessary for all living things to survive in this earth.
